End of Semester Celebration

Wednesday, December 17, 2008 was the last day of classes for the SCCS Middle School (MS) students. However, it was also a day unlike any others during the first semester. On this day, over 100 students and teachers boarded busses and went off campus for a celebration of their hard work over the past 18 weeks. Aqualand was the final destination, a large water park on the outskirts of the city and home to six major attractions.

“It was a great day,” said Mr. Hudson Thurston, MS coordinator, “and a great way to finish the first semester. This celebration, happening for the past three years, has turned into an annual tradition, one that we all look forward to attending.” Being able to spend the day together in a fun atmosphere is something the students love, as well. “Being with our whole class outside of school was awesome!” said Naomi Andrade, a 6th grader.

One of the biggest attractions was the family ride. “We loved going down the big inner tubes with all our friends,” said 7th grader Marcella Netzlaff. Dean of Students Mr. Nicolas Mostert enjoyed this ride, as well. He exclaimed, “What a fantastic ride, unless you get red carded for standing. Dumping students, smiling faces and socializing are just part of the pure magic of Aqualand!”

Other attractions the students enjoyed included the Lazy River, Yahoo, Kamikaze, Wave Pool and the Big Bucket. One 6th grader said, “We are having so much fun, we don’t want to leave!” Most agreed that it was a great way to end the semester and head off for vacation.
