Top 10 Reasons to Choose SCCS

Searching for a great school for your children? A school where they can learn in a bilingual setting with tested curriculum delivered by experienced teachers? SCCS is the school for you. Here are the top ten reasons why.

For more information about a particular benefit of SCCS, click on one of the bolded links below.

1. Experience. SCCS has 47 years of experience educating children in Santa Cruz using English curriculum. Our experience and accreditations ensure your children study a curriculum designed to prepare them for undergraduate studies at colleges and universities around the world.

2. Beautiful Campus. SCCS is located on a beautiful seven-acre campus with many indoor and outdoor facilities. Among other amenities, all classrooms have individually controlled air conditioning and students enjoy lunches prepared by the school cafeteria, voted one of the best school cafeterias in South America.

3. Focus on Advanced Placement. The Advanced Placement (AP) Program is a major concentration for SCCS. Students can currently choose from 11 different AP course offerings and have an opportunity to earn college credits upon completion of these classes.

4. Licensed, English-Speaking Staff. The staff at SCCS is made up of native English-speaking, experienced and licensed teachers committed to providing your child with the best education possible.

5. New Library Media Center. The newly constructed SCCS Library Media Center (LMC) opened at the beginning of the 2006-7 school year. The expanded resource center, double the size of the old structure, is the focal point of the campus and provides a 480 sq. meter space for students to research, study and read. The LMC houses 15,000+ books, 28 computers and a 620 sq. meter plaza for events and assemblies.

6. Diverse Extra-Curricular Activities. There are many opportunities to be involved on campus in student organizations and extra-curricular activities. Whether your children are in lower elementary just beginning their social and physical development, or in high school beginning to apply for college acceptance, there are plenty of chances to be involved in after-school activities.

7. Specialized Counseling Centers. SCCS has separate counseling centers for individual attention at all levels: Primary School Counseling Center, Secondary School Counseling Center, and the College Placement Counseling Center.

8. The SCCS Curriculum Works! Approximately 99% of SCCS graduates are accepted into universities around the world. The class of 2006 was awarded a total of $557,000 in scholarship funds by American Universities with an average award of $16,400. See recent college selections and scholarship information from recent SCCS Grads.

9. Individual Attention. Individual attention is paramount in early education and at SCCS Teachers’ Assistants (TAs) work full-time with PK- 4th grade classes. TAs in each early development classroom make it possible for each student to receive individual attention from the teacher so each student has the best chance to succeed. Do you know the TA in your child’s classroom?

10. Small Class Sizes. The average class size in PK – 12th grade classes is 19 students per class and these smaller classes mean more individual attention for each student.
